Artist Statement

To be genuine, art must reflect the artist and creatively relay their true concerns through visual mediums. My work is born intuitively from my subconscious; through it, I react to the world around us. In my practice, I reflect on issues ranging from family and community to global concerns like war, peace, and global warming. I express these ideas through a diverse range of art forms, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, and installation. I am drawn to abstract art specifically for the wide range of mysterious and imaginative expression it affords, and the ways it allows each viewer to interpret individual colors, brushstrokes, and textures as they move through a personal dialogue with each artwork.

My creative journey has been deeply inspired by the time I spent in Spain studying Andalusian architectural art. I was especially informed by the emphasis on geometric design, lines, and calligraphy found in this body of Islamic architecture and how it inspired abstract artworks that influenced Western artists like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. I see our world as a vast and magnificent mosaic of humanity, rich with cultural diversity. By sharing knowledge and exchanging cultural values through art, we can truly progress toward an advanced future for all people.

Within my work, there are vast landscapes of beautiful colors, lines, and textures to be discovered. By reaching out to you through these shapes and harmonies, I hope you will reach out to me in return, so that we may begin our journey together in peace and harmony.
