This photo was taken in Palermo, on the island of Sicily in Italy, during my time as a volunteer with the European Voluntary Service (EVS) — a European program that enables young people to participate in international volunteer projects aimed at promoting cultural exchange, solidarity, and the development of social and professional skills through community work.
On one of the days of Eid al-Adha, I received a call from my supervisor, Roberta, who told me she was organizing a visit for all international volunteers to join the Eid prayer, held at 6:30 a.m. on one of Palermo’s seaside piers.
This picture was one of the moments I captured there. It shows two curious tourists observing the Eid prayer, reflected in the mirror of a scooter. Looking closely, one can notice that a separate space was designated for women’s prayer, and among them, a little girl holds a pink umbrella with an image of Snow White, symbolizing the joyful innocence and bright colors of childhood amid the solemn atmosphere of the Eid prayer.
