THE MANDALA PROJECT LOS ANGELES: The Wall 2018 - A Collective Mediation on Humanity in response to the current climate worldwide

Location: Pershing Square, Downtown Los Angeles, California US

Walls and fences are poignant reminders of the consequences of division, suffering, repression and demagoguery, but they also serve as a metaphor for hope, resistance and reflection. Walls are built to create division, to prevent people and ideas from flowing freely. They legitimize fear and reinforce a false sense of otherness or “protection”; to tear them down is to embrace unity. I live plaster cast hands from all visitors and by-standers and mount them onto a tall fence dividing Pershing Square. Working collectively with the community members I intend to emphasize the importance of inclusion, diversity, freedom, democracy, unity, resistance and the urgency to collectively transcend and stand up for humanity, everywhere. The installation serves as a document of a collective meditation on humanity, tolerance and promotes an intuitive understanding of our connectivity.
